abstract

background: breast cancer is one of the most common cancers in the world, particularly in iran. there are many genomic and molecular factors that cause the occurrence of breast cancer. many markers are associated with tumor invasiveness. matrix metalloproteinase includes a family of zinc-dependent endopeptidases that degrade various components of the extracellular matrix and basement membrane. matrix metalloproteinase expressions increase in thyroid, colorectal, head and neck squamous cell carcinoma, lung, and ovarian cancers. it is correlated with tumor angiogenesis, invasion, and metastasis. matrix metalloproteinase 11 is a member of the stromelysin subclass of the matrix metalloproteinase family. this enzyme is secreted to become a potentially active form against other matrix metalloproteinases. contradictory results exist regarding the correlation between matrix metalloproteinase 11 expression and clinicopathologic parameters in breast cancer. methods: this case-control study examined 80 invasive ductal carcinoma of the breast and 80 adjacent nonneoplastic breast tissue paraffin blocks to identify the relationship between matrix metalloproteinase 11 expression and clinicopathologic parameters such as age, tumor size, microscopic grade, perineural and vascular invasion, lymph node involvement, and stage by immunohistochemistry analyses results: among the 80 patients, 86.3% showed matrix metalloproteinase 11 expression in tumor cells and 17.5% had matrix metalloproteinase 11 expression in adjacent normal breast tissue. this expression correlated with stage, grade, lymph node metastasis, and perineural and vascular invasion (p0.05). conclusion: matrix metalloproteinase 11 expression is increased in breast cancer and may be used as a predictive factor for tumor invasiveness.

The Expression Of Biomarkers In Invasive Ductal Carcinoma Of Breast Through Tissue Array Method And Its Comparison With Clinicopathologic Features

Background and Objective: In this study, we explored expression rate, some biomarkers affecting the prognosis of the breast carcinoma, and the relationship between these markers and clinicopathologic features of the disease as well as the relationship between each of these markers through a tissue array technique. Materials and Methods: This study was an observational and cross-sectional st...

Immunohistochemical Expression of Nanog and Its Relation with Clinicopathologic Characteristics in Breast Ductal Carcinoma

Background: Cancer stem cells (CSCs) are a group of tumor cells with self-renewal property and differentiation potential. CSCs play a crucial role in malignant progression of several types of tumors. However, what is still controversial is the clinicopathological relationship between Nanog marker and its prognostic value in the patients with breast cancer. The expression of Nanog in the patient...

Maspin Gene Expression in Invasive Ductal Carcinoma of Breast

Background: The breast cancer is the most prevalent cancer among women, on the other hand absence of myoepithelial cells play a pivotal role in pathogenesis of this cancer. Thus we aimed to investigate the possible abilities of the molecular assay technique to find a relationship between mammary serine protease inhibitor (Maspin) gene expression possibly secreted by my...

Study of the Expression of miR-4270 in Plasma of Patients with Breast Invasive Ductal Carcinoma

Detection of tumor-specific microRNAs (miRs) in the blood of cancer patients may provide a unique and valuable biomarker for diagnosis and prognosis. The aim of this study was to investigate whether plasma levels of microRNA-4270 could serve as a potential marker for breast invasive ductal carcinoma. A total of 40 breast cancer patients and 28 controls were recruited in this study. Total RNA wa...

Medullary Breast Carcinoma and Invasive Ductal Carcinoma: A Review Study

Background: Medullary breast carcinoma (MBC) is a unique histological subtype of breast cancer. The present study aimed to evaluate the classic and non-classic characteristics of MBC and its differences with IDC. The present review study incorporates 22 years of practical experience from a breast disease research center-based series of cases. Methods: Retrospectively, the medical records of 3,24...
